-Southeast Tourism Society bestows two “Shining Example Awards”-
The Virginia Tourism Corporation has been honored as the inaugural recipient of two new “Shining Example” awards by the Southeast Tourism Society. The awards were presented to VTC on September 3rd at the STS annual meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Virginia Wins Great Travel Site Showdown for Best State Travel Web Site in the Country

With college football season looming the arguments have already begun as to which team is Number One and who will win the national championship. But when it comes to which state has the best tourism Web site all arguments ceased last week when Virginia knocked off Michigan in The Great Travel Web Site Showdown sponsored by Travel 2.0, an internet tourism technology resource. The Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Web site, www.Virginia.org, bested Michigan’s tourism Web site by a 54% - 45% margin in popular voting.

Governor Kaine Announces Virginia's Crooked Road and Wilderness Road Featured in New National Geographic Map

~ Appalachian Driving Tours Map showcases cultural and heritage tourism sites ~

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today celebrated Virginia's role in the new Appalachian Driving Tours Map, a partnership of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and National Geographic Society. The map insert will be in the April issue of National Geographic Traveler and features 28 driving trails in the nation's Appalachian Region.  Nearly 20 sites along Virginia' Crooked Road and Wilderness Road, from bluegrass venues to state parks, are highlighted as part of an effort to increase tourism in Appalachia.

Governor Kaine Applauds Economic and Tourism Impact of John Adams

~ Filming of new HBO series in Virginia generates $80 million and showcases historic tourism sites ~

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today applauded the positive economic and tourism impact of the new HBO miniseries, John Adams. John Adams was filmed largely in Virginia at locations in Williamsburg and the Richmond area, spending an estimated $80 million in the Commonwealth. The film's Virginia premiere was Sunday at the historic Byrd Theater in Richmond and attended by Governor Kaine, producer Tom Hanks, author David McCullough and Paul Giamatti, who starred as John Adams.
