You’ll find plenty to love it in Virginia in July. Celebrate America’s birthday in style, savor authentic Main Street America and mingle learning with fun for the whole family.

If you love a parade, don’t miss the Madison County Firemen’s Parade and the Scottsburg 4th of July Parade and Celebration in Southern Virginia. Watch the sky over the James River explode with a kaleidoscope of color during the 4th of July Stars in the Sky in Newport News, and thrill to fireworks accompanied by patriotic music in the Blue Ridge Highlands at the Hometown Fourth of July Celebration. If history is your passion, celebrate the 50th birthday of the famed Fifes and Drums at the Fourth of July at Colonial Williamsburg.

If adventure stirs your blood, soar above it all during Lexington’s Hot Air Balloon Rally, and drive dream cars such as Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini and Aston Martin at Leesburg’s Capital Dream Cars – Power Driving Tour. Travel at a slower pace on an old-fashioned trail ride through the Blue Ride Highlands on the Kanawha Wagon Trains.

Immerse yourself in old-fashion summer fun during the Salem Fair, 11 days of carnival rides, food, games and free music. At the Loudoun County Fair enjoy animal exhibits, carnival rides and shows, agricultural displays and a Demolition Derby. On the Eastern Shore sample funnel cakes and clam fritters during the Wachapreague Town Carnival. Watch as volunteer fireman swim the famous wild ponies from Assateague Island to Chincoteague during the Pony Swim and Auction.

See American Indian heritage come alive as dancers and drummers perform during the Cheroenhaka Nottoway Indian Pow Wow in Hampton Roads. Try your hand at Medieval games and watch jousting and human chess during Gloucester’s Renaissance Festival. Take an old time music class in fiddle, banjo, guitar or mandolin at the Mountain Music School in the Heart of Appalachia.
