Group Sales Coordinator - Tourism
Newport News Convention and Visitors Bureau
Responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies to promote the City of Newport News as a vacation destination to a variety of group markets.
1. Works closely with area Convention & Visitor Bureaus, Virginia Tourism Corporation, Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association, Newport News' tourism industry in marketing our city, region and state to the tour and travel market segments: conducts in-person and telephone sales calls to schools, group leaders and tour operators; handles group inquiries and coordinates their needs. Attends and professionally represents the city at numerous sales missions and tradeshows, to include, but not limited to: National Tour Association, American Bus Association, Student Youth Travel Association, etc.; develops, schedules, organizes and conducts familiarization tours both locally and regionally; creates and provides suggested itineraries and site inspections; prepares proposals, assists in coordination and greeting of first time arrivals of motorcoach groups into the City.
2. Concepts, develops, designs and ensures updates for published materials and Web site for the tour and travel, such as flyers, itineraries, profile sheets, a group planner, student promotional literature, etc.; organizes, coordinates various city/state/regional promotions aimed at the motorcoach industry in niche markets such as African ?American Heritage, Catch A Wave, Civil War, 100 Miles of Lights etc.; Applys and administers grants if needed to promote these niche markets for tour & travel.
3. Serves as a liaison and trainer to Newport News' hotel sales staff, attractions, restaurants, etc. on how to understand and effectively work with and benefit from this industry; keep ACT database updated, provide leads to our tourism industry; track motorcoaches coming into our city, follows up with lead;, maintains frequent contact with the tourism industry within the City as well as area convention and visitors bureaus, various members of the travel industry in order to assist clients, the public and the City's hotels, restaurants and related businesses. Serves as a mediator in event of a conflict or problem with the tourism industry within the City; works to obtain a resolution or conflict.
